What We Offer: Our Roof Cleaning Huntingdon Process
Whatever roof cleaning service you choose, we will need access to your roof. After assessing the condition of your roof, tiles and shape, we will either use an industry-approved roofing ladder or a cherry picker for safe access to begin the cleaning process.
Roof Steam Clean
We deliver a variety of different roof cleaning services but what service is the best? Every property is different and not one method suits all. However, steam cleaning is the best and most thorough way to clean your roof.
We use low pressure but with Temperatures of up to 150°C. This not only cleans your roof but completely sanitises the surface killing organics such as moss, algae and lichen. Due to the low pressure and high temperatures, it removes the dirt with ease. It is a lot more delicate at removing moss from old, tired tiles and mortar minimising the risk of any form of damage.
With steam cleaning, we aim to avoid accessing the roof where possible and working off a scaffolding tower using telescopic steam poles to remove the unsightly and potentially damaging organics without stepping foot on the roof unless necessary.
Some properties we can clean with both feet on the ground and not even needing the use of portable scaffolding. This obviously all boils down to the shape and size of the property. Even though the steam kills all the organics on the surface we still apply a biocide treatment. The steam will kill any existing organics, but a biocide treatment adds a sustainable life span to the roof clean.
The biocide stays active on the service prolonging the regrowth of any organics. This can stay active for up to two years. Depending on how much sun the property gets and if there are any surrounding trees will determine how long the treatment will last.
Roof sealing
For a long-term deterrent for moss, algae and lichen we offer a ‘roof sealing’ service. This can only be applied to roofs that have been steam cleaned or low pressure cleaned. We cannot seal roofs that have been scraped and treated with biocide or softwashed. The roof sealant is a high quality, clear (natural look) solvent free, acrylic, impregnating sealer for concrete, clay and slate roof tiles. The sealer creates a waterproof barrier which greatly reduces the growth of moss, algae and lichen. Our roof sealer has a life span of up to 10 years.
Steam cleaning delivers an instant result given the desired outcome from the day of cleaning.
Scraping and treating
One of the most effective ways to treat a poorly affected roof affected by moss or algae is to apply a dose of biocide 5-10 days before we begin. That way, the risk of further damage to your roof is minimised and allows us to remove the moss more effectively.
When we get to work, you can expect us to carefully block off all your guttering downpipes and lay down moss-catching mats to reduce a heavy cleanup operation. To get access to your roof, our team will use a cat ladder or work from a scaffold tower, depending on the layout of your premises.
Our team will then use telescopic tools to minimise the chance of tile damage as we remove the moss. When finished, we will clean all your gutters and make sure no debris is left behind. After your roof has completely dried, we apply a final coat of biocide to cover the whole roof to deal with any remaining roots, spores, lichen, moss or algae.
Effective roof cleaning is not a quick fix – it is a long term cleaning process.
You will notice that your roof appears cleaner within the first few weeks after treatment. Our methods continue to clean your roof over a few months. Any moss, algae and lichen are naturally washed off by heavy rain and weathering after the biocide has done its work.
To help keep your roof looking visibly cleaner for the longest duration, we recommend at least one more biocide treatment to prevent any further moss re-growth.
SOFTWASHING
As its namesake suggests, a Softwash is the safest way to clean your roof with instant results. Rather than blowout cement or cause further damage to your tiles, a Softwash is designed to remove moss and lichen gently.
Like our Scraping & Treating techniques, we will either install a cat ladder or work from a scaffold tower to safely access your roof. All downpipes and guttering are covered/blocked to prevent blockages caused by any debris. Then we get to work manually scraping away any unwanted bio-material.
Once your roof surface is clear of moss, algae and lichen, and we have cleared your gutters of debris, we apply a cleaning solution to your roof to soak for 30-60 minutes. We agitate the area with a telescopic brush or water-fed brush for badly affected roofs to penetrate the deeper staining with a specially formulated solution.
After 2-3 applications and we are satisfied that the process has worked, our team will use clean water to rinse your roof. Lichen is one of the most challenging materials to remove, so we apply an after-treatment solution to continue the cleaning process once we have finished. After a few months, any leftover lichen will appear white and washed away naturally by heavy rain.
Minimal risk – maximum results.
Low pressure roof cleaning
Perfect for those wanting a cheap, effective solution for roofs that are already in a reasonably good condition.
During a low-pressure roof clean, our team carefully block and cover all guttering downpipes to avoid blockages like all of our services. Access to your roof is made possible via a cat ladder or our cherry picker.
Once our team has carefully installed safe access to your roof, we will use a low-pressure wash to rinse away and remove moss, algae and lichen. This process will bring back the natural colour of your roof tiles and remove any darkening grime. For harder to clean roofs, we may apply a cleaning solution before we get to work.
After we are satisfied that your roof is clean, we may apply a coating of biocide to kill off any spores or roots to prevent it from growing back later. We recommend an after treatment to maintain a clean finish to your roof.
Instant finish – no waiting for results.
